Mary Adams Day Carnes Allison was the daughter of Valentine Day and Elizabeth Adams. Her first marriage was to Benjamin Carnes, 20 June 1837, in Lincoln County, Kentucky. Children from this marriage were: Josephus Carnes, Thomas F. Carnes, Mary Carnes, and Amanda Carnes. Following Benjamin's death, Mary wed widower Humphrey Posey Allison in 1853 and moved to Mills County with their combined families. There they had three more children: Calthae, Emza Calista, and Bevra Alice. Mary outlived Humphrey by 26 years. She was buried near where Humphrey was buried alongside his first wife, Rebecca Linville, whose brother Henderson Linville was married to Mary's sister Ursula and brother Byram to Mary's sister Elizabeth, and whose sister Verlinda was married to Mary's brother Pleasant Day.
