JoAnn Carpenter Ballew, 66, a
resident of Sissonville, was born
January 1, 1941, and passed
away on May 6, 2007, at Saint
Francis Hospital after a long
courageous battle with cancer.
She was a homemaker, mother, and
loving wife, and enjoyed
cooking for everyone and
making them feel welcome in
her home. She loved to
bowl and was former president
of the Freedom League for several
years.
JoAnn loved to play bingo
and meeting up with her
~bingo buddies" every Tuesday
evening.
She loved her three grandchildren
dearly and considered
them the light, of her life.
JoAnn was preceded in death
by her loving husband, James
E. Ballew; parents, Ladd R.
and Marie Carpenter; and
brother, Dennis Carpenter.
She is survived by her daughters
and sons-in-law, Jonda and
Donnie Jones Jr. and Jamie
and Yancey Jude, all of Sissonville;
also three grandchildren
whom she loved so much,
Chelsee Jones, Keaton Jude,
and Kariana Jude; Davy Carpenter,
who was like her son,
and Angie Bowles, who was like
her daughter; brothers and
their wives, Charles and Mary
Carpenter of Cross Lanes and
Danny and Mona Carpenter
and David and Nonna Carpenter,
all of Sissonville; sisters
and their husbands, Patricia
and Jerry Landers of Kinston,
N.C., and Sharon and Bill
Jones of Sissonville.
Her family would like to
extend a sincere thanks to Dr.
Jogenpally and his staff and all
the nurses at Saint Francis
Hospital 4th Floor West, especially
Cynthia Miller. Your
kindness and helpfulness were
sincerely appreciated.
We love you Mom, so very,
very much.
Funeral service will be held
11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9. at
Cunningham-Parker-Johnson
Funeral Home, Charleston,
with the Rev. Clifton Thaxton
officiating. Burial will follow in
New Family Thaxton Cemetery,
Wolf Pen Drive, Sissonville.
