CHARLES W. ZIEMER (d. 1997)

Charles W. Ziemer, age 82, of 934 N. 17th St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday,
December 24, 1997, at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 1997, at
Wesley United Methodist Church, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Jay Smoke
with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

He was born March 22, 1915, in Manitowoc, son of the late William Ruby Tetzlaff
Ziemer. He was educated in the Manitowoc School System and graduated with the
class of 1934 from Lincoln High School. He married the former Shirley Leary on
August 1, 1948, in Cambria, Wis. He began his employment with Mirro Company on
July 9, 1934. In 1935, he started appraising machinery and in 1936 he began
working in the catalog department. In 1937, he advanced to the advertising
department and in 1940 he was drafted into the United States Army during World
War II where he was chosen the outstanding cadet of Officers Candidate School.
Before being discharged honorably as a captain in 1945, Charles was in charge
of Non Com Officers Training School, Camp Lee, Virginia. Coming back to Manitowoc
in 1946, he was in charge of the Premium Sales Department until 1956 when he
advanced to the General Sales Department. In 1960, Charles became the general
sales manager and in 1963, the vice president of sales. In 1964, he was named
to the Mirro Board of Directors. In 1966, he became Senior Vice President of
Marketing. In 1967, he advanced to the president and chief executive officer
position, until his retirement in 1980. Charles was chairman of the board from
1980 to 1981. He was past member of the board of directors of Associated Bank
Corp., Manitowoc Saving Bank, Memorial Hospital, past director of the Manitowoc-
Two Rivers Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of manufacturers;
past president and member of the board of directors of the Metal Cookwares
Manufacturers Association, Manitowoc-Two Rivers Civic Music Association; past
member of the Governor's Board of Economic Development, Board of Trustees of St.
Norbert College, and on the executive committee, Public Expenditures Survey of
Wisconsin; past board member of Wesley United Methodist Chruch, Family Service
Association and Lakeshore Technical College. In 1971, he was given the Gold Knight
Award by the Wisconsin Council of National Management Association for career
performance in management. In 1980, he was awarded the annual "Speak Up" award
by the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Chamber of Commerce. Charles was a member of the Wesley
United Methodist Church and Church Choir for 56 years.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ziemer, Manitowoc; two sons and one daughter-
in-law, William C. Ziemer, Memphis, Tenn., Daniel P. and Faye Ziemer, Piperton,
Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Lee Suess, Manitowoc; one brother
and three sisters-in-law, William and Suzanne Ziemer, Bloomington, Ind., Harriet
Ziemer, Green Bay, Helen Leary, Cambria, Wis.; one grandson, Jonathon Suess,
Manitowoc. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul
Ziemer Sr. and two brothers-in-law.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday (TONIGHT) at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc,
and on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church, the YMCA or the
Manitowoc Public Library.
