Shirley E. Ziemer, age 91, of 950 S. Rapids Road, Manitowoc, died Wednesday evening, February 23, 2011 at Riverwood Estates.
Shirley was born on April 11, 1919, in Cambria, daughter of the late Ray and Della (Gorsuch) Leary. She was a 1935 graduate of Cambria High School. Shirley attended Park College in Parksville, MO, and Milwaukee State Teachers College. She married Charles W. Ziemer on August 1, 1948, in Cambria. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1997. Shirley was a kindergarten teacher at Randolph Elementary School in Randolph and the Manitowoc Public School District. Shirley was a member at Wesley United Methodist Church where she played organ and served as choir director. She was also a longtime PEO member, actively involved in Monday Music Club and member of the Memorial Hospital Womens Auxiliary.
Survivors include her three children: William (Gail Sfat) Ziemer, Egg Harbor; Daniel (Laurie) Ziemer, Lawdale NC: Audrey (Lee) Suess, Manitowoc; two grandchildren: Elizabeth Sergent, San Clemente, CA; Jonathon Suess, Madison; one sister: Helen Leary, Cambria; four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Sue Leary, Cambria; Bill (Suzanne) Ziemer, FL; Sue Leary, Hampton, VA; Harriett Ziemer, Green Bay. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Charles W Ziemer; two brothers: Dodge Leary and John Emery Leary; brother-in-law: Paul Ziemer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 28, 2011, at Lakeshore United Methodist Church, 411 Reed Avenue, Manitowoc. Rev. Thomas Dunham will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the Ziemer family.
