"Rev. Julius Stevens Dies Sunday Evening"
"Funeral Wednesday A. M."
"Sunday evening, about seven o'clock, the Rev. Julius Stevens, who had lived eighty-five years of beautiful life and had devoted sixty of them to the ministry, passed into the last long rest, after a month's illness, during which his remarkable vitalitiy was slowly sapped away. His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. W. Gardner and came as the ending of a quiet day and the close of the Sabbath which had in past years been for him one of the most active and beautiful days of his earthly endeavor.
It has been arranged that the funeral services shall be held at the Congregational church Wednesday morning at 10:00. The body will be taken to Humboldt at noon and interred there, near his old home. In compliance with his own request, it is announced here that friends are asked to omit the attention of sending flowers for his funeral.
Rev. Nelson Wehrhan, pastor of the First Congregational church will conduct the service.
Loved Ones Who Remain
Among the large and devoted family that is now called upon to arrange and attend the last earthly rites for this good man, are his wife, Mrs. M. G. Stevens and the following children, Mrs. C. W. Gardner, Mrs. Harwood Sharp of Douglas, Oklahoma: Mrs. Ed Huntington of Norfolk, Nebraska; Miss Nora Stevens of Peoria, Illinois; Mrs. E. M. Van Patten of Fort Dodge; and Rev. J. Merle Stevens of Peoria, Illinois. All these children with the exception of Mrs. Sharp were at his bedside for the entire month just past, and will attend the funeral and interment.
A Remarkable Life
The life just ended has been remarkable for its beauty, its dignity and its broad helpfulness.
The good life began January 11, 1826, in East Poultney, Vermont.
As a young man, Mr. Stevens studied at Union college, Schenectedy, New York, and was graduated from this school in 1850. He came west at once and entered the ministry.
Rev. Stevens' mission have been varied and broad. He first preached under the govenment of the Christian church, then belonged to a Methodist conference and last of all, pursued his life quest in the Congregational church. He has served charges in several middle west states and has been sidely known and influential.
His Abilitiy Was Great
Through all his long life of public service, Rev. Stevens worked with a brain as well as a body that was strong and vigorous. His intellect was keen and his undoubtedly were temperament and equipment excellent for service in the church.
All this energy and activity he retained until the last and frequently conducted church services after his eightieth year. He traveled about considerably and was active in many other ways. He maintained until the last, keen interest in events in nation, state and home.
Until his last illness, he was never confined to his bed a single day by illness.
Rev. Stevens was married many years ago to Miss Frances McCannon.
The children who have been one of his great comforts in later years, were children of this first marriage. Mrs. Frances Stevens died many years ago."

Mr. Stevens is pastor of the Congregational church of Breckenridge, and thither the family has gone. That their united lives may become more happy for themselves and useful to the world for the union, is the wish of one who has known the groom for many years, and gratefully acknowledges his obligations to him for many sound maxions and inspiring sentiments delivered as pastor and teacher. During ten years residence in this city Mrs. Greig has borne a leading part in church and other good works, and her removal will be a genuine loss to the Baptist society, with which she has been identified. Both the contracting parties have relatives in this city, and many friends who join in wishing them many of the joys of life , and a few of the sorrows as may be ... overruling providence. The wedding was a quiet affair, attended only by the immediate friends of the pair."
