After the war he settled in Macon County, Illinois, where he married (1) Jeanette (maiden name unknown; 1840, OH) about 1868 (1870 US Census). He was still farming in Macon County when the census taker called in 1880 (1880 US Census). Benjamin filed for a Civil War veteran's pension in Illinois December 7, 1890, and received certificate No. 1,066,093. Benjamin had relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, by 1899, the year he married (2) Anna (maiden name unknown; born January 1860, MO) and was working as a grocer (1900 US Census). He was living at Belen, New Mexico, in 1910 (1910 US Census). Benjamin and Anna had moved to 816 14th Street, Douglas, Arizona, by 1920 (1920 US Census). Benjamin's son, Horace Burt, reported his death, at Douglas, Arizona (AZ Death Certificate). Shortly thereafter Anna filed for a widow's pension at Douglas July 28, 1922, and received certificate No. 929,252.
