GERING -- Clarence A. Zakrzewski, 74, of 13 Country Club Road died Nov. 14, 1994, at the Veteran's hospital in Hot Springs, S.D.
A funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church with the Rev. Gerald J. Harr officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors by the North Platte Veterans Honor Guard.
A rosary will be today at 6:30 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Friends may call today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial was established to the West Nebraska Diabetes Association Inc.
He was born May 3, 1920, to Benjamin and Anna (Maciejewski) Zakrzewski in Loup City. He grew up and attended school there. He then moved to Cheyenne, where he worked as a carpenter. In 1942, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, serving in World War II in the China-Burma-India theater. He was discharged from the service in 1946. On March 5, 1946, he married Tharon Wollen in Ogallala. He farmed until ill health prevented it, then he worked at various farm related occupations until his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of Christ the King Church and VFW Post No. 1681.
Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law Tara and Robert Toos of Cheyenne and Penny and David Stevens of Broadwater; mother Anna Erlewine of Ogallala; sisters and brothers-in-law Vannie and Dale Hoover of Ogallala and Mary Ann and Bruce Carr of Camp Springs, Md.; grandsons Rob and Scott Roos; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Benjamin, step-father Oral Erlewine and an infant brother Lynn.
