Harold D. Young, 81, of Oklahoma City, passed away February 2, 2006 peacefully at his home with family. Born February 18, 1924 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to parents Alfred and Laverne Young; he was one of six children. Harold joined the US Army Air Corps in 1942. After his first solo flight at the age of 16 years, he received his "silver wings" in 1944. He served as corporate pilot as well as Personnel and Safety Director for Big Chief Drilling Company before he and his wife, Peggy Brock Young moved to Dallas, TX, and joined the Dahlstrom Corporation as Corporate Pilot, as well as Risk Manager and Aviation Department Head for the major heavy construction firm. The company relocated Harold and Peggy to Austin, TX, in 1980 where Harold retired in 1986. He and Peggy moved to Hot Springs, Ark., until 1997 when they returned to Oklahoma City.

Harold and Peggy had a wonderful life together and had the opportunity to make many close friends everywhere they were. They were blessed with four loving and thoughtful children, Minta Hayes of Norman, OK, Nancy Beeson of Houston, TX, Marilyn Young of Lake Jackson, TX, and Harold D. Young Jr of Moore, OK; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Harold's professional memberships and associations were as follows: Professional Member Emeritus, American Society of Safety Engineers, President of OKC Chapter 1965-1966, OX-5 Aviation Pioneers, President of Oklahoma Wing 2000-2004, Quiet Birdman, Experimental Aircraft Association, Scottish Rite Mason & Shriner, Church of the Servant United Methodist Church. The memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 pm Sunday, February 5 at Vondel L. Smith Mortuary, 13125 N. MacArthur, Oklahoma City. Donations may be made to Happy Hill Farm for Children, 3846 N. Hwy 144, Granbury, TX 76048, and in Harold's own words, "THATS ALL FOLKS."
