Information on Nancy's immediate family has not been discovered other than that she married Daniel Payne of Kershaw County, South Carolina about 1796. She was the mother of five children, two of whom died before reaching adulthood, but all of whom were alive at the time of her husband's death in 1807 at Tattnall County, Georgia. Nancy became the executrix of her husband's estate which stipulated that his property remain intact until the first of their children married. Subsequently, Nancy made a yearly accounting of expenses to the Court in Tattnall County, Georgia for each year through 1814, the year her daughter, Elizabeth, married Dr. John Millar in Tattnall County, Georgia. By 1818, Nancy and her remaining unmarried children: Banyan (b. 1800) and Wiley Payne (b. 1803) along with their sister Elizabeth's family, moved to Morgan County, Alabama to the newly opened Chickasaw lands near the southern Tennessee border. Here the extended family seemed to fare well. Sons Wiley and Banyan married sisters, Sarah and Sinthia Owen, daughters of John and Mary Byrd Owen. Nancy left a will at the time of her death, as had her husband Daniel. Both of these documents mention the names of their children, although by the time of Nancy's death, no mention was made of either Darling Payne, her eldest son, or of her youngest son, Abijah. Son Banyan Payne became the executor of his mother Nancy's estate, and within a very few years Elizabeth and John Millar and children relocated to the Stephen F. Austin Colony in Texas, and both Banyan and Wiley and their families moved to Tipton County, Tennessee.
