John Henry WOODALL was born 20 FEB 1857 to John Woodall and Sarah N. Mercier Woodall. His father had died on 16 January 1857, a month before John was born, and his mother Sarah, along with young John and his sister Jane, walked back to Whitfield County so that they could be near Sarah's mother, Patience Turner Young Mercier.

As a young man, John worked for a while as a farmhand near the White River in Arkansas. His photo was taken one cold March day about 1882, when he and others had gone to town for supplies. John was about 25 years old at that time. He later returned to Whitfield County, GA, to farm.

He married Eliza Jane Bowman on August 9, 1887; it was her 17th birthday, and John was 30 years old at the time. He and Eliza had two daughters, one of whom was my maternal grandmother, Beryl Lorene Woodall, born 15 January 1892.

Eliza died when she was only 24 years old, and John never remarried. His sister Jane moved in with him to keep house and help raise the two little girls.

John died 26 AUG 1924 in Whitfield County, Georgia, and was buried in Mill Creek Cemetery, Whitfield County, Georgia.
