Ben married Charlotte Calhoun Upton and adopted her son Tom.
He served in the U. S. Army during WW II with the 9th Division Field Artillery, seeing action in Africa and Europe. Ben was very active in many civic and church activities of the First Baptist Church where he was a member. He retired as assistant postmaster of Benton and as Clerk and Master of Polk County.
