From The Palmer Journal, January 5, 1956, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney:
Mrs. Alvah Gee and Dick Gee attended funeral services Monday of last week for Mrs. Cornelia Baird at Calloway.
Mrs. Baird, age 81, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wherrett, who homesteaded near here before the turn of the century.
Cornelia Hazel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wherrett, was born in a covered wagon in Lucas county, Iowa, August 31, 1874 and passed away December 22 in the Calloway hospital, after a short illness. She was 81 years, 3 months and 21 days old.
Her parents came to Nebraska when she was only a baby and settled on a homestead near Palmer. There she grew to young womanhood, and in 1905 she was married to Harry Baird.
To this union two sons were born, Charles of Redwood City, Calif., and Dr. Vernon of Sonora, Calif.
In the year 1904 Harry Baird and Charles Curtis came to Calloway and were associated in business together. However, in 1919 the Baird family moved to California and some years later it was there that Mr. Baird preceded his wife in death.
Mrs. Baird was a charter member of Clara Chapter No. 222 Order of Eastern Star of Calloway. She was active in church work and was a communicant of Holy Trinity Episcopal church.
Since the death of her sister, Mrs. Grace Curtis in 1946, Mrs. Baird has made her home with Charles Curtis.
Interment was made at Modesto, Calif, where her husband was buried.
