Julia Ann (Ware) Bevan was born December 22, 1940 in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of Richard and Vera (Stevenson) Ware. Julia ("Julie") attended elementary school in Lane, Kansas and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1958. She came to Topeka to attend Clarks School of Business and became a lifelong member of the Topeka community.
She married Tommy Bevan on June 4, 1961 at her parents' home.
Julie is survived by her beloved husband Tommy, children Sara (Kyle) Morgan and David Bevan, three grandsons: Jacob, Andrew and Taylor Brown, and her sister Lois Ware.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Julie was an active member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. While their children grew up, she was an active participant in Highland Park PTO, Girl Scouts, and a proud Booster of Highland Park High School. She made time with her grandsons a priority and took great pleasure in their time together.
Julie worked at United Way of Greater Topeka for 46 years where she held many positions. Julie was highly valued at United Way for her calm demeanor, her knowledge of the community and her ability to connect people with community resources. Thousands of United Way volunteers may not remember what Julie did, but they remember and admired how she did it. For more than 20 years Julie and Tommy were foster parents to numerous Kansas girls. Being a foster parent was an important role for Julie and one that she took pride in. For many years Julie took vacation time from United Way to volunteer at Let's Help and the Christmas Bureau. Following her retirement from United Way, she worked at Let's Help where she continued to illustrate her caring compassion for clients and coworkers until her final illness.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, Aug. 1, at the church from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
