Rae "Lou" Voorhees Elsberry

1931 - 2016

Early Life: Lou was born on June 9, 1931, in Orem, Utah, to Ray Louis and Beulah Cambell Voorhees, the oldest of their four children. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem.

Life's Work | Service | Interests: On July 30, 1949, she married her sweetheart, Marion Dean Elsberry. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Utah Temple. They had two children, Terence "Terry" and Marian. Lou lived in various places throughout her life, as her husband's job required them to do so. But they established their roots in Santaquin, Utah. Lou worked several jobs throughout her life; she was a bookkeeper for Woolworths for many years. She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings. She was an extremely talented seamstress as well as very crafty. She made several quilts and crafts for her grandkids. Lou absolutely loved Halloween! She would dress up every year in full regalia as a witch for our annual Halloween party, which the grandkids loved. Christmas was for her spoiling the kids with presents galore. She loved genealogy and spent many hours tracing her roots. She enjoyed shopping, crafting, collecting dolls and figurines. But most of all, she enjoyed being around her family. She was extremely witty, leaving her loved ones in fits of laughter on many occasions. Beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Rae Lou "Lou" Voorhees Elsberry on September 11, 2016. She was 85.

Family Message: "Our memories of her are by the thousands. Lou was so special to so many people. She was caring and compassionate and she passed that trait down to her grandchildren. To say she will be sorely missed would be an understatement. She fought a hard battle, but the Lord needed her more. We are sure the reunion with her loved ones who passed before her was absolutely beautiful. Our world will not be the same without you. Please watch over us as our guardian angel. We love you so much and we thank you for loving us! Till we meet again."

Survived By: Her daughter and caretaker, Marian Andress; her son Terry (Susan) Elsberry; sister, Beulah (Bryan) Nielsen; her baby brother, Gerald (Eileen) Voorhees; grandchildren (the apple of her eye); Deana (Ryan) Puffer, Matthew (Raina) Andress, Natalie (Dave) Peterson, Kyle (Jessica)Andress and Colin Elsberry; great-grandchildren: Haydon, Brylee, Hunter, Erika, Jasper, Makenna, Nash, Jaida, Delaney and Marley; great-great-grandchildren: Remington and Ryker.
