Son of John Tibbets and Mary Moore Tibbets of Newfield, ME. Married first on June 13, 1824,to Sarah Merrill of Saco, ME. nine children were born of this union. Joanah, George, Sarah, Sarah, Cordelier, Sarah, Ira, Charles, and Mary Frances. After the death of Sarah Merrill Tibbets he married Sarah Patch in Portland, ME on June 11, 1846. Ira was a cordwinder by trade and then a mason. He was also a deacon. It is a sin the way the city of Portland takes care of this landmark, called a cemetery. Stones are knocked over the grass needs mowing, only recently have they stopped the dogs that run there.
