Wellington Washington** Stanbery was the son of U.S. Congressman William Stanbery and Mary Shippley. Just as his father was (in the Stanbery tradition), he was provided the best education that money could buy. He attended private school at Rev. Thomas D. Baird's Classical School, then attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, for a number of years. This was followed by years of professional training under the tutelage of senior skilled physicians.

He was said to have shared an office in Newark with his father's half-brother, Dr. Edward Stanbery.

Wellington was married on 27 Feb 1841, at the age of 29, to Rebecca Ann Hendren in Newark, Ohio, with the marriage being solemnized by E. W. Freeman, M.G.

After his death on 18 May 1888, his obituary stated that he had been buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery on 20 May 1888. He was survived at that time by his wife, Rebecca, and all three children: Marcella, Charlotte and William.

**There were some censuses where his name was entered as "Washington." It would be impossible to "mishear" Wellington, and write down Washington. They are two entirely different sounds. Therefore I conclude that the enumerator was being told "Wellington Washington." (i.e., This must have been his middle name.)
