Rebecca's maiden name was written as "Hendrew" in the restored** Licking County marriage record, and this has become widely accepted as her maiden name. But I noted that there were NO Hendrews buried in all of Ohio. There were, however, many Hendrens, including in Licking County. I decided that the name was probably "Hendren," and the ending "n" was misread as "w". I subsequently found a Hendren in their household, and another next door, on the 1860 census of Delaware County, both born in Virginia as well. These were two of Rebecca's brothers, I surmised. (They are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery.) When I entered Rebecca and her brothers into a Public Tree search on Ancestry, I found them in a family tree with father John Hartshorn Hendren (buried at Hebron Cemetery in Licking County) and mother Rebecca Baker (burial location unknown).
**The original Licking County Probate Court's marriage record books were destroyed by fires in 1875 and 1879. All marriage records before this date were lost. A few marriages were re-recorded.
