Laura K. Kirchhofer, 93, of Berne, Indiana died Friday, August 22, 2008 in the Swiss Village Retirement Community. She was born on June 9, 1915 in Adams County to Caleb and Ottilla (Sprunger) Sprunger, both deceased. She married Wilbur Kirchhofer on March 21, 1937 and he survives.
Laura was a member of the First Mennonite Church and a member of Women in Mission. She was also a member of the Homemakers Extension Club and she and her husband were volunters at Camp Gilead, Florida for 35 years. Her hobbies included gardening and quilting.
She is survived by her husband Wilbur; a son Robert (Carol) Kirchhofer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; a son, James (Bonnie) Kirchhofer of South Haven, Minnesota; a son Marvin (Nancy) Kirchhofer of Elida, Ohio; a daughter Betty (Rev. James) LeFever of Bancroft, Michigan; a daughter, Evelyn (Paul) Norr of Berne, Indiana; a sister, Naomi Von Gunten of Berne, Indiana; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children.
She was preceded in death by a brother David Sprunger and two sisters, Lillian Fox and Bernice Bell.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 in the First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana with the Rev. Dennis Schmidt, the Rev. Kent Norr, and the Rev. James LeFever officiating. Interment will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery of rural Berne.
Friends and family will be received from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008 in the Swiss Village Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Memorials are to First Mennonite Church Missions &/or Camp Gilead, Florida.
