Betty Condry Grogg who is Maude's granddaughter gave me all this info – Betty was raised by her grandma Maude and grandpa Arthur from the time she was a baby to about 14yrs old. Maude always wore a head scarf everywhere. Betty said that Maude's maiden name was "Swiney" spelled just that way. Betty said that Maude had been married once before she married Arthur and that she had a son from her first marriage that got killed in a motorcycle accident. Betty could not remember his name though. Betty said that when she would miss behave that her grandma Maude used to swat her on the legs with a switch of some kind, she remembers bickering with her grandma. Betty said that while she lived with Maude and Arthur, she remembers there was a large photo of Maude that hung on the wall in their house for years, the photo was of Maude when she was younger, we are not sure where this large photo of Maude ended up. Betty said her grandma Maude had sort of red hair. Betty said that her grandma Maude died a couple of days after going into a diabetic coma, because she had diabetes really bad. She remembers her grandma going every morning for a long time to the doctor's office to get an insulin shot, because she would not give it to herself, the doctor's office was only about 2 or 3 miles away. I am still confused as to who Maude's biological father was, her mother Belle was married to George W. Swinney, but Maudes Brother Luna had the last name of "Shupe". And I have been told that George Swinney was their step father. I have seen Maude's maiden name listed as Swinney and other times listed as Shupe, so I am not sure which one was her real last name.
