Ila J. Barnes, 87, of Lake Lotawana, Mo., passed away April 9, 2013, at the Monterey Park Nursing Center.

Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, Mo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, at the chapel. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lake Lotawana Community United Methodist Church or American Legion Post #499 of Blue Springs. Ila was born May 29, 1925, in Georgetown, Ill., the daughter of Ivan and Anna (Sheppard) Sherer.

She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth D. Huffman. He was killed in action a year later during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. She remarried to Charles P. Barnes who preceded her in death.

Moving to the Kansas City area in 1951 she was a homemaker and also worked for Western Auto in the accounting department until 1961 and when she Charles went into business for themselves owning two coin-operated laundry's and an apartment house.

Also preceding her in death were sisters, Louise and Jo, brothers, Dwight and Ivan. Survivors include sons, Gene A. Barnes and wife Carol of Grain Valley, and Charles Barnes of Lake Lotawana; grandchildren, Katie Barnes of Grain Valley, Mo., and David Barnes of Kansas City, Mo.; brother, Jim Barnes; sister, Carmen Nelson; and sisters-in-law, Opal Sherer, and Lita Shanahan.
