Albert Simmons Richards was the 2nd of six children born to John King Richards (1826 - 1884) and Catherine Anne Simmons (1843 - 1892), on May 20, 1862 in New Orleans, LA. At the time of his birth, Albert's father was 36 and his mother was 18.

Children of John King Richards and Catherine Anne Simmons, including Albert:

♡ John Robert Richards (1860 - 1875)
♡ ALBERT SIMMONS RICHARDS (1862 - 1946)
♡ Ruth Alden Richards (1866 - 1940)
♡ Benjamin Edward Richards (1868 - 1868)
♡ Daniel Bardsley Richards (1871 - 1955)
♡ Abby Jane Richards (1876 - 1885)

Albert was baptized on Dec 26, 1862 at St. Luke's Church of Christ, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. For the first 19 years of his life, Albert and his family lived in Connecticut. The family returned to Florida to homestead less than 2 years before his father's death on November 3, 1884, in Hillsborough County, Florida. John King Simmons was 58 at the time of his death. His body was transported for burial with his parents and siblings at Yantic Cemetery in Norwich, Norfolk, CT. Albert continued to live with his widowed mom, Catherine Anne Simmons Richards and his siblings; Ruth Alden 19, Daniel Bardsley 14, and Abby Jane 9. Abby died Dec 27th, 1885 in Albert's arms.

Albert was employed as a Carpenter on the construction of the lavish Tampa Bay Hotel. It later became Tampa University. He met his future wife, Lorena Celeste Cuneo (1872 - 1947) while staying at a boarding house where she worked as a Co-Manager. He also met his future father-in-law, John B Cuneo, also a carpenter on the project.

Albert married Lorena on March 17, 1894, in Tampa, Florida, when he was 31 years old. They had nine children in 18 years. Albert became a retail merchant in the early 1900s. By 1903, he owned a Richards' Grocery Store on Palmetto Beach. On April 13, 1908, Florida's 19th Governor, Napoleon B Broward, appointed Albert Simmons Richards as a Notary Public, serving the State of Florida "At Large" for four years.

Albert, Lorena, their children and grandkids spent summers at their 400 acre farm in the cool mountains near Asheville, NC, in Broad River Township. Albert was the family historian and an avid genealogist. The fruits of his genealogy research were shared with subsequent generations through the publication of the Richards Family History, a richly-detailed account of the nine generations (at the time) of Richards that preceded him, traced back to John Alden and Abigail Thayer. Albert was especially proud of the fact that in more than 300 years of nine generations of Richards, there were no divorces nor any criminal offenses. He was deeply devoted to the preservation of his ancestral roots, a lover of music, literature, and celebrations.

Children of Albert and Lorena:

♡ Eric Kathorn Richards (1894 - 1949)
♡ Clyde Beulah Richards (1896 - 1975)
♡ Clara Leigh Richards (1897 - 1951)
♡ Maurice "Morris" Richards (1898 - 1955)

♡ Stanley Webster Richards (1904 - 1987)
♡ Ruby May Richards (1906 - 1992)
♡ Annie Catherine Richards (1912 - 1912)
