BANGOR – Deborah I. Rand, 92, wife of the late Preston Brown Rand, died peacefully January 19, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 22, 1923 in Brewer, the daughter of Joseph Edward Drinkwater, Sr. and Hattie Aurelia (Seavey) Drinkwater.

Deborah was educated in the Brewer Schools and graduated from the University of Maine in the Class of 1944 with a B.S. Degree. That same year she worked as a dietitian at Temple University, Philadelphia, for students and servicemen. She also worked as a dietitian in a government cafeteria in Washington, D.C., in 1945. She was active in the Girl Scouts of America as both a Brownie and Senior Scout Leader. She taught at All Souls Church Nursery School 1962-63, the Bangor Hebrew Community Center Nursery School 1964-65, and became a Kindergarten teacher in the Brewer School system in 1966, teaching until 1984.

A camper, Deborah and her husband enjoyed camping and traveling in many recreation vehicles over the years. Photography was another interest and she belonged to the Eastern Maine Camera Club, often exhibiting photographs at the Bangor Fair Photo Shows. She was a member of All Souls Congregational Church of Bangor. She has written an extensive genealogy on the Seavey and Drinkwater families in Maine. Deborah was a Literacy Volunteer and also participated in the Penobscot Valley Senior College. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's special events, was an avid reader and loved to tend to her garden.
