Warren G. Ovitt, age 83, of Johnstown, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at the Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a brief illness.
He was born on October 12, 1923 in Conklinville, the son of the late Oscar F. Ovitt and Grace Allen Ovitt.
Warren was employed as a leather worker for local tanneries until his retirement.
He loved to hunt fish and watch ball games on T.V. He was a great outdoorsman and father.
On February 22, 1943, he was united in marriage to Margaret M. Grovenburg Ovitt; they shared 61 wonderful years until her passing on September 23, 2004.
Survivors include one son, Edward and wife, Ruth Orr, of Johnstown; one daughter, Patricia and husband, Edwin Van Dyke, also of Johnstown; two sisters, Erah Kilmer and Doris Sarr, both of Johnstown; a sister-in-law, Avis Ovitt; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Ovitt was predeceased by two brothers, David Ovitt in 1995, and Albert R. Ovitt in 1997; four sisters, Mary Cole in 1984, Mabel Winchell in 1998, Ina Oliver in 2003 and Ruth A. Hurd in 2006.
Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
