BAKENHUS--Martha Bakenhus dies on Tuesday, last rites Friday
Mrs. Oscar (Martha) Bakenhus, 77, of Rt. 1, Leigh, died Tuesday evening at Columbus Manor.
There will be a prayer service at 1:15 p.m. Friday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, and the funeral will be at 2 o'clock at Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. M. Bornemann will officiate, with burial in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. The body is to lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
She was born June 7, 1893, in Colfax County, the daughter of Fritz and Ida Grotelueschen Otte, and attended Colfax County and Christ Lutheran Schools.
On June 17, 1915, she was married to Oscar Blaser [sic] at Christ Lutheran Church.
A resident of Colfax and Platte Counties, Mrs. Bakenhus was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church.
Surviving are six children, Walter, Orvis and Orden of Leigh, Ora and Esther of Marion, Iowa, and Mrs. Loren (Arloa) Fittje of Humphrey; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Otte of Columbus and Herman of Leonia, N.J.; and two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Minnie) Otte of Wayne and Mrs. Ann Littlejohn of Corvallis, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Lorna and Elna of Leigh; one sister, Mrs. Ernst (Louise) Korte of Columbus; and one brother, Adolph Otte of Columbus.
