Lorene B. Daley
Lorene Bernice Daley, 84, a longtime resident of Longview, passed away April 23, 2010, at St. John Medical Center.
She was born June 5, 1925, to Bessie Paulson and Antone (Tony) Olsen in Puget Island, Wash.
Lorene graduated from Wahkiakum High School and moved to Kelso shortly after. She married James Daley in 1946. They were married 47 years until his passing in 1993. Lorene and Jim had one son, Ron, born in 1960.
Lorene was a member of the Beacon Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she was a pre-school Sunday school teacher. She loved church outings and social gatherings. She often related stories of how much fun she had with church members as they packed boxes for those in need. One thing is universal with all who remember Lorene, she had a memorable laugh with a great sense of humor. Playing practical jokes on her brothers and sisters kept them on their toes.
Lorene was a loving and devoted wife and mother who "never met a stranger." Her home was open to family and others in need, and she faithfully drove back and forth to Cathlamet to care for her aging parents.
Lorene took pride in her home and yard. She often brought beautiful flowers from her home for Sunday church services. She enjoyed planting trees, gardening, refinishing furniture, and cooking. From her vast collection of recipes, one could always count on Lorene to bring something delicious to eat. She frequented garage sales in search of collectables and furniture to refinish. She had a joke or story to tell about each find.
Lorene was happiest gathered around her family in Longview and Cathlamet. She loved to get out in the woods for camping and sightseeing. She took pride in cooking up a great meal while roughing it. Her favorite getaway locations were Colony Surf on Hood Canal and clam digging on Long Beach. In recent years Lorene enjoyed the company of a special friend, Debbie Earnest and a little wiener dog named Frankie.
Lorene is survived by a brother, Gordon Olsen of Aviano, Italy; a sister, Irene Sidwell, of Boulder City, Nev.; and her son, Ron Daley of Longview.
Lorene was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Olsen and Stanley Olsen; and a sister, Ruth Ashard.
A celebration of life service and potluck will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beacon Hill Baptist Church, 158 Niblett Way in Longview. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet. Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Columbia Funeral Service, 1105 Maple St., in Longview.
Flowers are being arranged by the House of Roses. In lieu of flowers, donation in Lorene's name may be made to the American Heart Association, 2625 Third Ave., Seattle WA 98121.
