He was born Dec. 12, 1932, in Eugene, to Norman and Barbara Braunner Olsen. He married Mary Ann Laharty on May 31, 1958, in Eugene.
Olsen graduated from St. Francis High School and served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years. He served on the USS Lexington and more than two years as a Navy recruiter.
He was the founder and owner of ASI Business Group/Automated Sales Inc., where he worked for 30 years. He received many awards for his business product innovations. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, family, basketball, Las Vegas and attending his grandchildren's athletic events. He coached youth sports for many years.
His memberships included Knights of Columbus, Elks Club of Eugene and St. Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike of Eugene and Jeff of Tualatin; a daughter, Kelley Kline of Eugene; a sister, Phyllis Greig of Albany; and six grandchildren. A grandchild, Will Kline, died previously.
The recitation of the rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Eugene. Tuesday's Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the church. Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
