The 1880 census for the Township of Sunbury, Livingston County, IL shows William Sr., age 69, living with his son, William. Bridget Ellett Nolan, wife of William Sr., had died in 1876. According to the bible of his daughter-in-law, Bridget Noonan Nolan, William died on May 30, 1900. However,
the 1900 Census for the Township of Nevada, Livingston County, IL (enumerated on June 11, 1900) shows William living with his daughter, "Katie" Holohan. His age was given as 95 and it was noted that he had immigrated from Ireland in 1860 and had been naturalized. The census noted that William could read and write. The enumerator was trained to ask for the names of all persons living in the home on June 1, 1900. The person responding to the enumerator's questions (probably one of Katie's older chidlren, whose ages ranged from 12-25) likely thought that William had died in early June as opposed to late May. There does appear to be a large X through a portion of the data submitted on William. It is likely that the May 30 date is correct.
