Eva May Abernathy, 87, of Veedersburg died at 5:25 P. M. Tuesday July 18, 2017 at home. She was born July 15, 1930 at Covington the daughter of Freeman and Stella L. (Williams) Newkirk.
She moved to Veedersburg in 1964 from Covington and had attended Covington Schools. She enjoyed her family and was a former member of the Sycamore Bowling League.
Eva married William Amos Smith August 29, 1948 and he died July 1, 1962. She later married Stephen E. Abernathy September 1, 1962 and he died October 23, 1984.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Wait and Melva Smith, a son Allen W. Smith, all of Veedersburg; a brother Harold (Ruth) Newkirk of Covington; five grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are four step children, Shirley (Lloyd) Curry of Georgetown, IL, Gretchen Hutchison, Carol (Lloyd) Jackson, Stephen E. Abernathy, all of Crossville, TN, several step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. Her parents, husbands, son William Leroy Smith, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
