Grant Minor Miles was educated at the Northwestern Military Academy, Bradley Polytechnic Institute, and the Univ. of Illinois. He married Miss Georgia Rider on June 24, 1909 in Pekin, IL. In 1915 he was commissioned a captain in the 5th IL Infantry. He was later detailed to the general staff of the war department, promoted to a major in 1918, and was honorably discharged with that rank in 1919. He later held commissions in the Illinois Officers Reserve as Lt Col and Colonel.
