LANCASTER, SC:::::Gudrun Goebel (nee Merkel) was taken from us after a brave battle with Myeloma Cancer on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Hospice Unit at the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC at the young age of 75 with her loving daughters Michelle and Theresa at her bedside.

Gudrun was the youngest daughter of the late Emil and Theresia Merkel and was preceded in death by her beloved sister Rosemarie Mertens. She was the wife of the late John Fritz Goebel for 37 years with whom she shared her passion of the business world. Together she assisted him in his success of building Continental Manufacturing and later Goebel Corporation. She was the previous owner of a Merle Norman Store in Lancaster, was a licensed travel agent, and attended architecture and real estate classes.

She will always be remembered for entertaining family and friends with her exquisite cooking and baking talents and creating a home atmosphere of class and comfort.

She was our warrior against her illness which she carried with grace and an independent spirit. Her departure will be mostly missed by her adoring daughters, her sister, and her grandchildren. She is also survived by her two step-daughters, and their children.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Gudrun Goebel will be 3:00 pm Saturday, July 30, 2016 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Dr. Eugene Rollins.
