MRS. KATHERINE COLLINS LUCE
With heartfelt sorrow we chronicle the death of Mrs. Katherine Collins Luce, which occurred at the home of her brother, Mr. John H. Collins, in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, December 19, 1929, at the age of 42 years, 5 months and 1 day.
About ten years ago Katherine was afflicted with a complication of troubles from which she never found relief, and death came as a welcome release from suffering.
The remains were brought to Chariton on Saturday forenoon and taken to the Beardsley Funeral Home, where funeral services, conducted by Rev. E. L. Stone, of the M. E. church, were held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, after which interment took place in the Chariton cemetery. The floral tributes were profuse and beautiful, emblematic of regard for the dead and sympathy for those who are so sorely bereft.
Katherine Collins, daughter of J. H. and Ida Collins, was born in Chariton, Iowa, on July 18th, 1887. She attended the Chariton schools, graduating with the class of 1906. Katherine's sweet and sunny disposition won for her friends innumerable.
She was a member of the D.A.R. and P.E.O. organizations of this city. She spent the greater part of her life here, but for the past five years had lived in Des Moines where she was employed with the Royal Union Life Insurance Company.
She was a very patient sufferer, and carried her burden most cheerfully to the last. She was ever thinking of those in whose hands was her care.
A host of friends in Chariton have been greatly saddened by the loss of this one whom they cherished, and the sympathy of this community will be extended to her mother, Mrs. Ida Collins, her son, Palmer Luce, and her brother, John H. Collins, and other relatives who are left to mourn their great loss.
