Edna M. Large Acken, 85, of Rosharon, Texas, formerly of Indiana Township, died Sunday (May 9, 2004) in her daughter's home in Texas.
Born Feb. 10, 1919, in Indiana Township, she lived in the Valley all her life before moving to Texas seven years ago.
Mrs. Acken and her husband, Paul, formerly owned and operated Acken Appliance in Springdale.
She was a member of Springdale Methodist Church, Springdale/Cheswick Senior Women's Club and Credit Women International.
In addition of her husband of 62 years, Paul Acken, survivors include two sons, Paul Gary Acken of Leechburg and Timothy Acken of Butler; a daughter, Rochelle Honkus of Rosharon, Texas, with whom she lived; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Emma Lafferty of Pittsburgh and Jeanne Rapp of Butler.
Mrs. Acken was preceded in death by a son, Corlis Acken; her parents, Alex and mary McKelvy Large; two brothers, Thomas and Lester Large; and two sisters, Alice Bell and Doris Pfeiffer.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Ave., New Kensington. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Walter Chapel Methodist Church, Crawford Run Road, Rural Ridge, by the Rev. Darlene Ryniec. Burial will be in Walter Chapel Cemetery, Rural Ridge. Everyone is asked to meet at the church.
