Paul Acken, 93, formerly of Springdale, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at home in Rosharon, Texas. Mr. Acken owned and operated Acken Appliance in Springdale with his wife, Edna, for more than 40 years. He was born April 24, 1918, in Rural Ridge, to the late Corliss and Ida Wilson Acken. Mr. Acken was a World War II veteran serving with the Army in the Signal Corps in Europe from 1944 to 1948 and engaged in the Battle of the Bulge. He is survived by two sons, Paul Gary (Lucinda) Acken, of Leechburg, and Timothy Acken, of Butler; daughter, Rochelle (Steven) Honkus, of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edna; a son, Corliss; a grandson, Paul Daniel; two brothers, Kenneth and Edwin; and sisters, Sylvia and Elizabeth. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St., where services will commence at 11 a.m. Thursday with burial to follow in Walter Chapel Cemetery, Rural Ridge. www.jarviefuneralhome.com.
