J. F. KIRKER, dealer in hardware, was born in Ripley, Ohio, February 5, 1853; son of Thomas S. and Mary L. Prindly Kirker. He was educated in the common schools and Russelville Academy, Ohio, and graduated from the State Normal School, Emporia, in 1875. He was always fond of books, and took great delight in them. In 1871 he came to the State, and settled in Quenemo on a farm. He engaged for ten years in school teaching, and was for seven years Principal of the public school in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. He opened the first hardware store in the place, in 1882, carries about $3,000 stock, and has a good trade. He was married in Chase County, Kansas. February 5, 1878, to Miss Lida E., daughter of Aaron B. Moore, Esq., of Cincinnati, Ohio. They have one daughter, Luella M., born May 4, 1880. Mr. Kirker is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and an Odd Fellow.

of Heart Trouble While
Pruning Trees
WAS AN UNDERTAKER

J. F. Kirker, 68 years old, former undertaker, dropped dead of heart disease at 6:45 o’clock Thursday evening in the front yard at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. R. Marsh, 1407 West Fourteenth street.
He had been pruning trees in the yard, and was answering a call to dinner when he was stricken. He had not been indisposed previously.
Mr. Kirker was associated with his son-in-law in the undertaking business in the second block of North Main street prior to retiring in 1912. In that year he removed to Grant’s Pass, Ore., returning to Wichita last December.
He was born at Russellville, Ohio, February 5, 1853. He came to Kansas in 1871. His residence had been in Wichita twenty years.
Mr. Kirker has been a member of the Methodist church since early manhood. He was also a member of the Masonic, Odd Fellows, and Knights of Pythias lodges.
Besides his daughter he is survived by his widow, and a son, Paul E. Kirker, Toppenish, Wash.
The body is in charge of A. G. Mueller, funeral director, awaiting funeral arrangements.
