JONES IN SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION
Resident Of Ward Three For 29 Years Seeks City School Post
E. F. Jones, past commander of the L. B. Faulk American Legion Post and a resident of Ward Three for 29 years, announced his candidacy yesterday for member of the Monroe City School Board. Mr. Jones, who lives at 116 Pargoud Drive, decided to seek election to the school board after being requested to do so by many of his friends. He is presently distributor for Cities Service Oil Company products in Ouachita Parish with offices located at Ninth & Olive Streets. Believing that our schools are the greatest assets in our community, Mr. Jones pledges his full support to the cause of education. Members of Mr. Jones' family include his wife and one daughter, Betty Sue Jones Glud (Mrs. Aage Glud), who attended Monroe city schools and is a graduate of Neville High School.

EUGENE F. JONES, FORMER SCHOOL OFFICIAL, DIES
Eugene F. Jones, former members of the Monroe City School Board and retired businessman, died early today in the St. Francis Hospital following a long illness. He was 78. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday in the Covenent Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Russell Burns and Wayne Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home.

A native of Alcorn County, Mississippi, Mr. Jones had been a long-time resident of Monroe. He was a Veteran of World War I, member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, and served on the Monroe School Board from 1952 until 1960. He was retired from Gulf Oil Distributing Company in Monroe.

He is survived by his wife:
Mrs. Effie Jones
One daughter:
Betty Sue Jones (Mrs. Aage Glud) of Charlotte, North Carolina
Two brother:
John Jones of Memphis, Tennessee
Jim Jones of Sarasota, Florida
Three grandchildren
