THE WORK OF DEATH.
GEO. WM. JOHNSON.
Geo. Wm. Johnson, a well-known colored man, died at his home, 29 East street, yesterday, of paralysis, after a few days' illness, aged 65 years. The deceased had been an employe of Wm. S. Miller & Co., coal dealers, for a number of years. His funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services will be held at the house and interment at Laboring Sons cemetery.

The funeral of George Wm. Johnson, colored, took place yesterday at 2 o'clock. Services were held at his residence, 29 East street. Rev. T. O. Carroll officiated, assisted by Rev. M. G. Lee. The pallbearers were Charles Wilson, Wm. Downs, George Lyles, Lee Whiten, Eldridge Warner, Elijah Davis. Interment was made at Laboring Sons' cemetery. A. T. Rice & Sons were the funeral directors.

From the Frederick Newel Post, Historic Preservation News For The City Of Frederick, Summer/Fall 2012: The African American Resources Cultural Heritage Society of Frederick County believes they have identified seven African American veterans who served in colored regiments during the American Civil War. . .George W. Johnson, 54th Mass. . .The most widely known battle fought by African Americans was the assault of Fort Wagner, in South Carolina by the 54th Massachusetts on July 18, 1863.
