Ruth W. Gardiner, 80, of Boothwyn, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at Heartland Hospice House in Pike Creek, Del.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles H. Gardiner, who passed away in 1998.
Ruth was the daughter of the late Martha Weatherby and George C. Jester.
Mrs. Gardiner retired from the Vlasic Pickle Co. in 1993 as an inspector, after 20 years of dedicated service.
She was an active member of the Atonement United Methodist Church in Claymont, Del., where she participated in the Circle Meetings. Ruth frequented the Sellers Senior Center in Bellafonte, Del., where she enjoyed playing pool.
In her leisure time, Ruth enjoyed crocheting, cooking and traveling. She had a passion for the Philadelphia Phillies. Ruth especially enjoyed playing bingo at the Luther Knolls Retirement Community, where she resided. Above all things, her family was most important.
Survivors include her children, Barbara A. James and her husband, Floyd, of Jonesboro, Ga., Linda L. Perryman of Linwood, David A. Brown and his wife, Kelly T., of Claymont, Del., Diane Brock of Bowie, Md., and Charles H. Gardiner and his wife, Nancy L., of Avondale; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gardiner was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Brown, in 1950, and a grandson, Donnie Brown.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Del., where friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kimmel Cancer Center, Breast Cancer Research, Attn: Joy Soleiman, Suite 502C Blumble Bldg., 233 S. 10th St., Philadelphia, PA 19107.
