According to the US World War I Draft Registration, at age 45 Luther signed up Adair, Mayes County, Oklahoma. At the time he gave his occupation as a farmer and nearest relative as Ruth Humble.
By the 1920 US Census Luther and Ruth were living in Rider, Mayes County, Oklahoma and he has listed his occupation as general farming.
On the 1940 US Census it is reported that Luther, now 66 and Ruth now is 48. They are living in McDonald Twp., Jasper County, Missouri and he is still farming.
By the time of his death he was residing in Madison township, Jasper county, Missouri (aka known as route 3)with his wife Ruth. He had farmed and been a resident of the area for 40 years. According to his death certificate, he passed away at his home of chronic heart disease. He was 83.

He was buried in the Markley family plot in Park Cemetery under the direction of Knell Mortuary

End Comes Day Before 84th Birthday - Funeral Services Wednesday Afternoon at Knells


William Luther Humble, retired farmer and resident of this district 25 years died at 11:35 this morning at the family home, 5½ miles east on Fairview on route 3. Death came the day before his 84th birthday.
Mr. Humble had been ill several years and critical the last two days. He had been a patient in McCune-Brooks Hospital on several occasions.
He was born July 23, 1873 in Grayson county, Kentucky. He came here from Oklahoma and lived near Avilla before moving to route 3.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Boan Humble to whom he was married June 25, 1917; a niece Mrs. Henrietta Campbell, Canon City, Colorado,
Mr. Humble was a member of the Fairview Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 Wednesday afternoon at the Knell Mortuary. L. Edsil Dale, minister of the Fairview Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
Mr. Humble made the request some time ago that no flowers be sent for his for his funeral

Luther's father, Henry Humble, returned to Kentucky after the death of Luther's mother, Malinda. He left their children, ages 11, 8, and 6, with the Snyder family, probably Malinda's mother, Kiziah (Riggs) [Palmer] Snyder, who lived another eleven years after Malinda's death. Kiziah's Snyder descendants continued to put flowers on Malinda's grave for over one hundred years.
