Dustin L. "Dusty" Hoppenworth, 30, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at his apartment on Sunday, December 30, 2012, of natural causes.

Dusty was born on September 30, 1982, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Scott D. and Lynette K. (Scharnhorst) Hoppenworth. He was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. When Dusty was six years old he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Dusty grew up with several health issues, but never gave up. He was a 2001 graduate of the Waverly- Shell Rock High School. Following his schooling, Dusty worked for United Equipment for over 5 years and was currently working at Goodwill Industries.

He was attending Vineyard Community Church and during his spare time Dusty enjoyed crafts, stitchery, collecting gadgets, playing cards and board games, and loved giving things to others. He truly loved his job at United Equipment and spending time with his companion "Corky", his long haired Dachshund.

Dusty is survived by his mother, Lynette (Russ) Stensland of Waverly, Iowa; his father, Scott (Cindy) Hoppenworth of Waverly, Iowa, two brothers, Andrew (Sasha) Hoppenworth of Hobe Sound, Florida, Jordan Hoppenworth (Mara Toay) of Muscatine, Iowa; two step-sisters, Nicole and Ashley Miller both of Waverly; his maternal grandmother, Eleanor Scharnhorst of Waverly; his paternal grandparents, Darrel (Marlene) Hoppenworth of Waverly; a niece, Leia; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Dusty was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Marvin L. "Marv" Scharnhorst in February of 2012; and his maternal and paternal great grandparents.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Pastor Deborah Coble-Wise officiating. There will be no public visitation as Dusty's body has been cremated. Burial will be held in Harlington Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to American Brain Tumor Association, 8550 W.
