Linda Faye Henson Bastings

LAMAR, MO — Linda Faye Bastings, age 56, Neosho, Mo., passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Freeman Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Linda was born on Aug. 9, 1953, in Fort Devins, Mass., the daughter of Billy E. Picaman and Quita (Hudson) Henson.
She has been a lifetime area resident. She graduated from MSSU in 1987 as an RN and later with her BSN. She worked for over 40 years for Freeman Hospital, beginning as a candy striper, then as an RN, BSN and CNOR. She was the recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Award. She has devoted her life to caring for others.
She attended the Abundant Life Church in Neosho.
She was a member of the MSSU Nurses Honor Society, The National Nurses Honor Society and the Association of Operating Room Nurses. She was a past member of the Western Twirlers and the Tristate Swingles.
She enjoyed cooking, collecting kewpies and glassware, and she liked to read.
She married Gene Bastings on May 21, 1988, in Joplin, and he survives.
Additional survivors include their son, Benjamin Bastings, Neosho; one stepson, Jerimie Bastings, Joplin; mother, Quita Henson, Joplin; father, Billy E. Picaman, north of Kansas City; one sister, Opal Roberts and husband Mike, Webb City, Mo.; brothers-in-law, Eddie Bastings, Jasper, Mo., Danny Bastings and wife Janice, Carthage, Mo., and Roger Bastings and wife Sharon, Carthage; sisters-in-law, Vicky Bastings, Webb City, Mo., and Susan Begley and husband Jeff, Lamar, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel. Pastor Ken Robinson and Pastor Paul Dilts will officiate.
Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery in Saginaw, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Children's Haven in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel.
