Anna Elizabeth (Eliza) Hendrix was the first-born child of William Hendrix and Mahala Massey Hendrix. According to the Hendrix Bible, she was born in Monroe County, Alabama on October 23, 1828. She was nineteen when her parents came by covered wagon to Leake Co., Miss. After her mother's death in 1848, she took --as best she could -- the mother's place in the home, sharing the responsibility of the younger children with the father, William.
On August 5, 1862, at the age of thirty-four, Eliza Hendrix married Oliver Hazard Perry Davis (b. 3-9-1814, Columbia, Co., GA, d. 8-9-1882 in Leake Co., Miss), a Methodist minister who was a member of the Mississippi Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, at the time of his death. (Excerpts from Hendrix Kith and Kin).
In the 1900 Federal Census for Red River, Louisiana you can find Ann E. Davis living with her only child and daughter, Sarah Jane and husband W. H. Gray.
