Mrs. Gertrude Brown, age 87, died Friday, December 26, 2008, at her residence after a short illness. She was a native of Bulloch County and a member of Brannen Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the Elks Lodge, Phobe Floyd Temple, Chapter. She was a retired homemaker. She is preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Lewis Brown.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her three daughters, Helen Gregory of Sumter, S.C., Margaret B. (Paul) Tremble of Statesboro and Dorothy A. Campbell of Atlanta, Ga.; one foster daughter, Ida Eunida (James) Brown of Miami, Fla.; seven sisters, Jessie Mae Reid of Savannah, Iona Hendley, Catherine (David) Lee, Juanita McClendon, Alma Hendley, Betty Jean (James) Clifton and Alzena McGrady, all of Statesboro; two brothers, O'Neal Hendley and Lawton Hendley Jr., both of Statesboro; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at Brannen Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Mathis, pastor, officiating. Burial: Eastside Cemetery. James R. Barnes Mortuary, Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.
