HEGGS, Colleen Howze, 77, passed away Thursday, August 26, 1999 after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. She was a resident of Hollins, a retired nurse at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a member of Enon Baptist Church and devoted to her family. Surviving is her husband of 59 years, John W. Heggs, Jr.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Amber and Ronald Lemons, Vinton, Yvonne and Ronald Mossor, Roanoke; three granddaughters, Jessica Grose, Roanoke, Kasey Lemons, Vinton, and Valerie Grose, Roanoke; one brother, Benjy Howze, Roanoke; several "special" cousins; a niece; and her beloved dog "Max." The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, August 29 at 2 p.m. at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Troy E. Mays officiating. Burial will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA, 1313 Eastern Avenue, Roanoke, Va. 24012 or the Hollins Fire & Rescue Squad #5, 7401 Barrens Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019.
