"Frank "Harold" Hayden, 84, of 1610 Bernice, St. Joseph, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital Division, Benton Harbor.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 pm at Kerley & Starks Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial will be in the North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday from 6p-9p at the funeral home, where a prayer service will be held Tuesday at 7:30pm.
Mr. Hayden was born July 11, 1903, in Richmond, VA. He retired in 1973 as a custodial supervisor from the Benton Harbor School System, where he had been employed for 17 years. He was a member of the Michigan Public Schools Employees Retirement Association, the Benton Harbor Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons; Retirees for Fun; and a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Volunteers since 1975.
Survivors include: his wife, the former Elizabeth Parker; a daughter, Mrs. Burl (Dorothy) Smith of Benton Harbor; a Stepson, George Parker of Benton Harbor; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren." (Herald Palladium 19 Oct 1987).
NOTE: Early records reveal that he was actually born in 1901, in England, however, Frank Jr. consistently reported born in 1903 in Virginia. A couple of years difference in age could be due to clergical errors, however, the Country he was born in seems undesputateble after looking at gov't records.
