Life's Work/Service/Interests: In 1945, Blanche married Newell G. Shepherd and together, they had a daughter. Newell was killed in an airplane explosion March 23, 1950. Blanche later married Max Alfred Garrett on July 26, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. Blanche and Max had a daughter and son. Blanche was a homemaker and later employed at Dalebout Bakery and Norton Food Center. For twenty years, she was a receptionist for an orthodontist, Dr. R. B. Greenwood. Blanche was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She always enjoyed basketball and football, both at the college and the professional level. She liked watching her children and grandchildren participate in athletics too. Blanche enjoyed making and tying quilts and embroidering various items. Max died May 10, 2002 at the age of 88. Following his death, Blanche continued to be in her home in Provo, Utah. She moved to Mesquite, Nevada, in August 2010, to live with her daughter. Dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Blanche Wankier Garrett, died on November 4, 2013, at the Meadows in St. George, Utah, where she has lived for the past three years.
Survived By: Two daughters, Sharon (Dick) Paulsen of Orem, Utah; Rhonda (Kevin) Bales of Mesquite, Nevada; a son, Kim (Andra) Garrett of St. George, Utah; and a brother, Maynard C. Wankier of Salt Lake City, Utah; 17 grandchildren, and 57 great-grandchildren.
