Douglas Cletus Fischer, 60, of Shenandoah, Va., passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at his home.
He was born on May 6, 1947, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital to the late Roy Lee Fischer and Evelene Kite Fischer.
He graduated from Page County High School in 1965 and holds the school's discus record of 150'8" set in 1964, the same year in whichh he won the Division A State Championship.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 as a medic and OJT instructor at Little Rock Air Force Base and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He graduated from Elon College in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in biology.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas James Fischer.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lorrene Lam whom he married in 1999; his three children, Douglas Kite Fischer and wife Molly of Pittsburgh, Pa., Erin K. Williams and husband Tad, of Harrisonburg and Sarah Beth McAnulty and husband Nathan of Shenandoah; and their mother, Janet Ruth Foltz and her husband Bruce of Shenandoah.

He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Angie Hammer of Elkton; a sister, Carol Lee Fischer Strickler and her husband Tom of Shenandoah; an uncle, Glenwood Fischer of Chesapeake, Va.; and numerous Cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Don Comer and the officers of the Shenandoah Fire Department: Ian Rudolph, Lester Hensley, K. L. Jenkins, Timothy Kite and James Williams.
Honorary pallbearers were all the members of the Shenandoah Fire Department Company 70.

Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery.
