Virginia Ruth Burchell, age 87, of Peoria passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at Bel-Wood Nursing Home in Peoria.
Virginia was born on Oct. 8, 1924, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Steven Douglas and Naomi Ruth (Powell) Thompson. She married Thomas Henry Burchell on Feb. 26, 1951, in Peoria, Ill. He preceded her in death in January of 2002.
Virginia is survived by two daughters, Patricia Durbin of Mishawaka, Ind., and Barbara (Orville) Skinner of Peoria, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, George Durbin II of Indiana, Michelle Gregory of Indiana, Joseph Skinner of Jacksonville, Ill., Melissa (Jerry) Miller of East Peoria, Ill., Crystal (Cally) Stein of Canton, Ill., Margaret (Cleophus) Lewis of Peoria, Ill., Orville (Cheryl) Skinner III of Peoria, Ill., James (Tammy) Bice II of Pekin, Ill., David Robinson of Pekin, Ill., Jason (Damica) Bice of Pekin, Ill., Christine Hall of Centralia, Ill., and Tammy Hall of Centralia, Ill.; 29 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas; her son, Clifford Hall; her daughter, Thelma Bice; her grandson, Steven Burchell; and two brothers, Carl and Donald.
Virginia was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, walking, fishing and shopping.
Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home in Peoria. The Rev. John LaFollette will be officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
Memorials may be made to the Bel-Wood Activity Fund.
