DINKEL, ALAN J., SR. Howell, Michigan Life-long Howell resident Alan J. Dinkel Sr., age 89, passed away on July 21, 2014 at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital in Howell. He was born on February 16, 1925, along with his twin sister Alberta, at the old Allison farm near Chubb's Corners on Schafer Road; the son of Albert and Kitsey (Allison) Dinkel, and brother of Gerald. Alan attended Howell High School, where he was a star in the mile run. He bought his first farm at age 19 and married Audrey Klekot of Brighton in 1956. Alan was a land developer and home builder in Livingston County and founded the area known as "Dinkelville." In 1975 he retired and started with his family the famous Dinkelville Melons. He loved to work, hunt, fish, and play bingo with his friends. Alan is survived by his three children: Kim (David) Howard, Tammy (Gary) Beal, and Alan (Michelle) Dinkel Jr. of Howell, along with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In accordance with Alan's wishes, no services will be held. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends for his diligent work ethic and his charismatic disposition.
