He died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center.
He was born on May 11, 1911, in Wise County. He married Mildred Hayhurst on Nov. 27, 1937, in Clovis, N.M. He owned and operated a Fina gas station in Brownfield from 1960 to 1965 and later Carl's Shamrock station in Lubbock.
He had been a resident of Lubbock since 1967 and lived in Portales, N.M., from 1940 to 1957. He was a member of Caprock Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Ray in 1982.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Hazel Hall of Amarillo, Juanita Caldwell of Lubbock, Peggy Hodges of Virginia and Lou Ann Hobbs of Portales, N.M.; a sister, Carnique Maddox of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
