Albert Michael DeFranzo, Jr., 54, of Hopkinton, MA and formerly of Windsor, beloved husband for 33 years of Debra A. (Turek) DeFranzo, passed away suddenly on Friday, (February 17, 2012) in Marathon, FL. Born in Hartford, on May 17, 1957, son of Gina Ann (Della Nave) DeFranzo of Windsor, and the late Albert Michael DeFranzo, Sr. Al was originally raised in Windsor, and lived in Hopkinton, MA for the last 16 years. Al attended Windsor Public Schools and graduated from Windsor High School in 1975. He furthered his education at the University of Connecticut and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1979. Al began his professional career in high school with Dobbs at the Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks. Upon graduation from college he was promoted to Buyer, then Assistant Manager, and eventually to General Manager. The company later became known as Gate Gourmet and Al transferred to a General Manager position at the Logan International Airport in Boston, MA. He later became President & General Manager of Exhibit Group - Giltspur, an exhibit and tradeshow organization in Avon, MA. In 2005 he partnered with the Bauman Group, Inc., a marketing and training company in Ashland, MA and Al served as the company's President and co-owner. In his spare time, Al enjoyed being with his family, going to the beach, picnicking, playing golf with his friends, son, and colleagues, riding his Ducati Motorcycle, skiing, smoking cigars, and working around his home. Al was the ultimate handyman, and always had a project that he was working on to improve his home. From putting an addition on his home to building an Adirondack chair for his porch, Al always worked to make his family more comfortable. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Hopkinton, MA and was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Poquonock while living in Windsor. Family and friends may gather on Friday, February 24, 9 a.m., at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., in the Poquonock section of Windsor, followed by a Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church in Poquonock. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Poquonock. His family will receive friends on Thursday, February 23, 5-9 p.m., at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in Hopkinton, MA at St. John the Evangelist Church.
